Volunteers - Starting the Process

The first step in volunteering at Nazarene Hospital is to contact World Medical Mission (contact Linda Herman, herman@samaritan.org) to express your interest. They will help with scheduling, planning, travel arrangements, medical registration and visas. We ask that volunteers come for at least a month.

Among the issues that must be addressed for each volunteer, one of the most significant and time consuming is the registration with the Medical Board of PNG and acquisition of visas. Below is a brief outline of the process and contact information you will need. If coming through World Medical Mission, then they will coordinate this process, as well as other details in regard to the experience.

Registration and Visa Process

1. Volunteer provides (to Hospital) a brief CV
2. Volunteer supplies information needed for visa application
3. Nazarene Hospital in PNG applies for approval from PNG Immigration for issuing of visa.
4. PNG Immigration sends (FAX) approval to Nazarene Hospital.
5. Nazarene Hospital sends copy of approval to volunteer. Nazarene Hospital will send copies of the supporting documents that were submitted to PNG Immigration, and if the approval is not issued by the time the volunteer travels, he or she can use copies of these documents to obtain the visa.
6. Volunteer applies for ("Easy Visitor Permit") visa at the immigration counter at the airport upon arrival, presenting the approval letter or the supporting documents along with the passport.

Usual duration of above process:  8 weeks
