Students - Starting the Process

The first step in volunteering at Nazarene Hospital is to contact us to express your interest. Please provide us with basic biographical information, your level of medical education (including what clinical rotations you will have completed by the time you come here), your Christian testimony and your interest in missions. Tell us what time periods will work for you to come. Depending on many factors we may then invite you to come to Kudjip for a student rotation, and we will try to work out an exact schedule for you to come. We ask that students come for at least a month.

Among the issues that must be addressed for each student, one of the most significant and time consuming is the acquisition of visas. There are fees involved, and we retain the services of a law firm to assist in this process. The student is asked to pay the costs for this (about US$150 the first person in the family, US$25 for each additional family member). Below is a brief outline of the process and contact information you will need.

Note: For first-year residents the process is the same as for students, including applying for a student visa.

Registration and Visa Process

1. Volunteer provides (to Hospital) a brief CV
2. Volunteer supplies information needed for visa application
3. Nazarene Hospital in PNG applies for approval from PNG Immigration for issuing of visa.
4. PNG Immigration sends (FAX) approval to Nazarene Hospital.
5. Nazarene Hospital sends copy of approval to volunteer. Nazarene Hospital will send copies of the supporting documents that were submitted to PNG Immigration, and if the approval is not issued by the time the volunteer travels, he or she can use copies of these documents to obtain the visa.
6. Volunteer applies for ("Easy Visitor Permit") visa at the immigration counter at the airport upon arrival, presenting the approval letter or the supporting documents along with the passport.

Usual duration of above process:  8 weeks
